Week 10

So March is ending quickly. It has rained twice this week, once Wednesday and again today. This is very exciting, as the island was quickly becoming a desert. There are severe water shortages, and an increasing number of forest fires. On a happier note we have a new bookshelf. We did not have one, and I was talking to my landlord about where to buy one, and she had a guy make us one. It is really nice. We are going to paint it after the semester, but for now it is just perfect!

Also more BIG news, we got a mop and a mop bucket. I know, go us. We have been trying to buy one since we got here, and they finally had some in stock at Ace hardware. Seeing as how it has rained twice this week, we have a few cherries on the cherry tree in the back yard. There are not many, but it is nice to see some color, every thing is getting so brown and dry.

Someone must have told Shiloh about the water shortage, as you can see she is guarding her water-bowl. Yes it is an empty ice cream bucket, because it works. Also, I did not get to eat that ice cream, it was here already. But, I am on the lookout, because I think she needs a new one! :)
Can you tell we used the mop? Well, about school, it is defiantly picking back up, however we have Easter this coming weekend, and so we still have that to look forward to. We actually get out of school for Good Friday and Holy Monday, so a 4 day weekend, that we are hoping we can use to get ahead in our studying. Shiloh's birthday is Thursday, so we will definitely take her to the beach this weekend. But other than that, we are not doing any big trips, but we are going to use the time to study, we really want to do better on the finals. Also, my grandmother, (my dad's mom) is in the hospital, and my step grandmother (J's mom) is not doing so well either. Thinking about them, and asking everyone to pray for their families. Miss everyone lots, hope you all have a great week!

Week 9

So as long as week 8 was, that is how short week 9 has been. It has flown by. It has also been kinda hard to get back into study mode. Part of that is because today is sandblast, which is a big party on the beach that celebrates the end of midterms. All terms are now done with midterms. So we are going but we are not going to the after party, because that would take tomorrow away as well. Sandblast ends at 6 pm, but the after-party will last much much later. Will plan on Sunday being a big study day, and not a getting over Saturday night, kind of day. So I told you a bit about the waterfall last weekend. So, I will tell you the whole story. My friend and neighbor, M, had a friend, B, come and visit him from the states. So we decided to got to Mt Carmel waterfall. We took a series of Raggea buses, which are actually vans, but they go many places and it is quite an inexpensive way to travel. You also have may take several to get to where you are going. So on the second bus, the area was very hilly, and twisty, and just a mess of a road. This particular bus was completely full, and the drivers are very fast on these VERY mountainous curvy roads. So, yours truely could not take it anymore. We had to get off the bus; I was very sick. Side note to W, I was not playing any video games to make me car sick, and did just barely get off the bus in time! NICE! I make a great first impression, if you want me to meet any of your friends that flew a long way to see you! So the bus leaves us, and we are in the middle of nowhere.

Fortunately in about 10 min, a flat bed pickup truck comes by, and we hitchhike. The guy driving was really nice and was going to Grenville, which is the place that we were going to catch our next bus. Much more air, my face is not blue anymore! And M and B did not make fun of me THAT much!

This is the market in Grenville.

So we also had lunch in Grenville at the melting pot. That is us in line there. So we ate.

Next we get on another bus that will take us the rest of the way to the waterfall. We, as a group, decided that I should sit up front. This ride was much better, not as curvy, and we finally get off the bus.

I do not think that the US gave Grenada this waterfall, but who knows. So there is not arrow or anything, just this sign. Some gentlemen out on the street told us to follow a path behind these peoples houses, and we would get there. So we do. Literally walking through peoples back yards, and continuing down a trail. We did find the waterfall, which is the tallest waterfall in Grenada. It was beautiful.

After enjoying the waterfall, we went to this area a bit down stream, to where these rocks make natural watersides. It was a little scary at first, but what FUN!!

Climbing up to the slide was the most difficult part. We had a great time! We have Sandblast today, so we are about to leave.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Week 8

So midterms are finally over. What a LONG week. We have our results, because D could not wait to check the grades, and then once he knew his, well, I had to check mine. The Monday's bio chem, we both made a C, lower than the class average. Wednesday's histology we made a B,  a little higher than class average. And Friday's anatomy, we both made a B, but they were high B's and well above class average. So, not the A's that we were hoping for, but they are not going to kick us off the island. Yes, we made the same grades in each subject, weird! On another note, we had a really great day today. We went with some friends to Carmel Waterfall. It was really fun, there are these rocks that make a natural water slide. there is an upper and lower slide, the lower one ending in a pool area. I will post picture later, my friend has them on his camera, so I will get them and post later. Really Fun.Also we ate at this very Grenadian restaurant called the melting pot. Not the American type. This was kinda cafeteria style, we knew it would be good when we saw only locals there. I had a chicken roti. We also got some fish from the fish market, which I am cooking now. We bought sailfish, for $2.75/lb. Freshly (today) caught!
So, we had a really good day, and we both feel so much better now that midterms are over. Kinda disappointed with the grade, but we both think that our studying has greatly improved over the last 2 months, and believe that we will do better this 2nd half! We are going to take Shiloh to the beach tomorrow, she has had a tough week as well, not much fun to watch people study. Well, talk to ya later. Thanks so much for all of the prayers and kind words. It is always great to know that we are supported by our friends and family! We are very blessed in that area!

Week 7

What can I say, midterms start Monday. Been studying like crazy, but we did get a really good night's sleep last night, and the world has been better today! Monday 9am-12 pm Biochemistry. Wednesday 9am-12pm Histology. Friday 8am-5pm Anatomy. We are supposed to get our first two grades back Friday afternoon, and the anatomy grade Monday. Have not decided if I will check grades Friday or not, don't want them to ruin my free weekend! Well back to the books. Week 8 is going to be tough!
